Counselling for Young Carers
Being a young carer is difficult and can impact upon other areas of a young carer’s life such as school, relationships & social life.
Counselling is a chance for a young carer to focus on themselves and to think about their own needs.
Counselling can support young carers in a non-judgemental and safe environment to think about their situation and find ways to cope in a more positive way. When a young carer participates in counselling they will be able to explore their thoughts and feelings, including their relationship with the person they care for.
Leonardo Carer Support may be able to fund a course of counselling for a young carer. This would be subject to eligibility and household income criteria, and we may ask their family to contribute towards the cost.
To be eligible the young carer needs to be recognised as a young carer by a professional that knows the family and can see the young person has a caring responsibility. Please use the form on this page for children and young people under the age of 18 or aged 19 and in full-time education. Please use the adult counselling page for young carers aged 19 and over and not in full-time education.
